Ex lifeboat "NEELTJE JACOBA" is a sturdy, famous ship with a long history. Built in 1929 as a self-righting lifeboat by Shipyard Gebr. Niestern in Delfzijl, The Netherlands, "Neeltje Jacoba" was bought by the NZHRM (the Dutch Lifeboat Society), and became the lifeboat for IJmuiden until 1968. In 38 years she went out on 259 missions and saved the lives of 206 sailors. During the Second World War she was used as a hospital ship. In 1968 "Neeltje Jacoba" was sold and used as a pilot-boat in Den Helder. In 1985 she was totally restaured. During all her missions she had never capsized so some of the tanks which made her self-righting were taken out to create a guest accomodation, her outside steering position was covered and the original crew accomodation was transformed into a comfortable saloon with galley and ensuite master cabin.
