Conceived as the ultimate Catalina, the 42 interprets the needs and desires expressed by many sailors considering a yacht in the over-forty-foot class. First among these requirements are speed under sail, and easy predictable handling characteristics. An important consideration for many cruising sailors is the ability to realise the boat's performance potential under sail with a short-handed crew.

Catalina 42 "Nicnop", built in 1989/1990 by Catalina Yachts - USA, dim.: Loa 12,75 m (Lwl 10,97 m) x 4,22 m x 1,83 m, headway: 17,80 m (without antenna), design by Catalina Yachts, GRP hull, deck and superstructure, Lewmar windows, round bilged hull, fin keel, displacement: 8,154 tonnes, ballast: 3,76 tonnes, fuel tank: approx. 200 litres, fresh water tank: total 450 litres in 4 plastic tanks, one sump tank, mechanical wheel steering, emergency tiller.
Modern teak interior, saloon + three cabins, 6 (+1) berths, two heads with own wash bowl, shower and a manual under water toilet, Webasto heating, boiler (20 litres) runs on 220V and engine, electric water pressure system, galley with sink, three burner gas stove with oven, microwave.
Yanmar 4JHBE 42 hp diesel engine, mechanical gearbox, indirect cooling system, cruising speed: approx. 6,5 knots, maximum speed: approx. 7,5 knots, consumption at cruising speed: approx. 3 litres per hour, three bladed propeller, propeller shaft stainless steel, 4 fire extinguishers ( two must be inspected), electric and manual bilge pumps, electric circuit: 12v/110v/220v, service batteries: 2x 160 amp. of '03 + 1x 160 amp. of '02 and one start battery of 100 amp. of '03, shore power, battery charger of 35 amp.
Compass, echosounder/log and wind set, Shipmate VHF with Atis, GPS, Navtex, plotter, rudder indicator, Autohelm autopilot, E-pirb, Pioneer stereo with CD-player.
Sprayhood, sun awning, wind vane, 6 pers. life raft (last inspection '03), life jackets 4x, life lines, electric windlass, CQR + Danforth anchor, approx. 10 m chain, bathing platform, boarding ladder (s.s.), deck shower: hot + cold water, two wired sea railing s.s., fenders, clock and barometer.
Sloop rigged, removable cutter stay, aluminium two spreader mast, fittings stainless steel + alu., standing rig s.s., head sail furling, sails of 2003: full battened main sail + genoa + cutter sail (cutter sail never used), sail covers, reefing system, boom vang, Lewmar winches, spi pole 2x.
