This is the first IY 60 built by Indigo Yachting, South Africa to a design of Simonis-Voogd BV, launched in May 2004. The second hull is under construction. The design is a light displacement, moderate beam hull form combined with high aspect ratio carbon rudder and inverted "T" profile keel. There is also the possibility of a shallow draft version.

General
IY60 Sloop, constructed by Brent Gray Projects in South Africa, launched May 2004, designed by Simonis Voogd Yachts, interior detailing by Anton du Toit Yachts, styling design by Indigo Yachting & Co., LOA 18.28m (60'), LWL 15.60m (51'), beam 4.80m (15'4), draft 3.20m (10'2), (shallow draft option available). The vessel is built to comply with the RCD criteria for CE category A Ocean. The vessel has two watertight bulkheads, creating three compartments. Hull and deck of composite lay-up consisting of unidirectional E-glass with Airex/Herex PVC foam core and Sicomin epoxy resin system. High impact areas underwater in the forward sections of the hull also have Kevlar fibre reinforcing. Chain plates of a composite design employing several layers of carbon fibre for strength over a stainless steel insert. All structural elements including keel bed, engine bearers are composite. Steel keel fin with a lead bulb. Carbon fibre rudder and rudder stock. Teak laid decks, teak cabin sole, teak seats and transom platform. Lead ballast 5,700 kg (12 500 lbs), displacement 17,000 kg (37 400 lbs), fuel capacity approx. 880 litres (195 Imp gallons) in two aluminium tanks of 315 litres each and a day tank of 250 litres, water capacity approx. 600 litres (132 Imp gallons) in stainless steel tank, approx. 80 litres (18 Imp gallons) in coated aluminium tank. Steering by twin wheels on composite pedestals, quadrant/cable system by Lewmar, self aligning needle bearings by JP3.

Interior joinery to a high standard of solid Birch and lightweight composite panels clad with Birch veneer, lacquered finish. Cabin soles of composite panels with Wenge veneer. Head linings and other soft panels are covered with Alcantara. Settees and other seatings are upholstered with high quality synthetic fabric. Accommodation for six persons in three double cabins, double bedded master cabin forward with two seats and ample stowage, the ensuite heads compartment has a separate shower stall. One double bedded and one twin bedded guest cabin aft, each cabin has ensuite wc/showeroom. Vacuflush 1008 toilets. The saloon has an open plan U-shaped galley to starboard, forward facing navigation station to port and a U-shaped sofa around a table to port, a three seater sofa to starboard and two director's chairs bringing the seating at the table to eight. The forepeak is fitted with two pipe-cots and tubular racks for stowage of running rigging. Galley: Alpes-Inox 4-burner cooker/oven, Alpes-Inox s/s double sink with mixer tap, foot pump for salt water, solid acrylic Lapis Granite work tops, U-Line icemaker, LG 750w microwave. Refrigeration: 24v DC water cooled compressors for fridge and freezer with holding plates system by Indel. Fridge capacity 130 litres, freezer capacity 180 litres. Sea Recovery "Aqua Whisper module 800-1" 125 litres (2..5 Imp gallons) per hour watermaker, Isotemp 40 litres (8.8 Imp gallons) electric hot water heater, water pressure via dual PAR pressure pumps with 8 litres accumulator. Frigomar reverse cycle airconditioning/heating, chilled water reticulation and fancoil units.

Main engine: Yanmar model 4LHA-HTP, 4-stroke vertical 4 cylinder, turbocharged intercooled, fresh water cooled via heat exchanger, 160 hp (118 kw) at crankshaft, ZF Hurth HSW450A2 gearbox, 40mm stainless steel shaft with custom fabricated P Bracket and "Manecraft" deep sea seal, Gori 3- bladed folding propeller with "overdrive". Generator: Fischer Panda PMS 8000 NE 7.6 kva @ 3000 rpm supplying 220v/50 Hz. Main engine and generator both have water injected exhausts, flexible rubber hose with Vetus waterlocks. Bilge system: five suction points served by a single electric/manual pump with a manifold. Two manual pumps. Ansul "Micro K" solis aerosol fire extinguishing system. Electrical: 24/220v system. 600 ah DC battery bank with Sonnenschein deep cycle gel batteries. 120 ah 12v starter battery, Sonnenschein 120 ah 12v instrument battery. Charging via 130A alternator on main engine or by 100A Victron battery charger. AC system supply by generator, Victron 2 kW inverter or 35 Amp shore power connection. Alarms and ship's monitoring: For bilge levels - 5 zones, black water tank level, Run indicators for bilge pump and grey water pumps, gas detector alarm.

General: forward facing chart table and navigator's seat with elecric switch panels and ship's monitoring panel. Navigation: B&G Hydra 2000 system sailing instruments, 4 X FFD, 2 X 20/20, 3 x Pilot controller, Hydra Pilot. Furuno 3832 24 nm radar. Furuno 10.4" colour radar/chart plotter at nav station and 7" repeater in cockpit, interfaced with GPS via Navnet. Furuno GP-32 GPS. Communication: Icom IC M601 VHF Icom IC M802 General - 150w SSB. EPIRB

Entertainment: LG Flatron LCD 20" flat screen TV, Clarion 6 stack DVD player, Clarion amplifier and speakers for surround sound, 5 Clarion speakers in saloon including sub-woofer and four waterproof speakers in cockpit. Ground tackle: CQR 75 lb main anchor on foldaway anchor roller, 70m of 12mm chain, Lewmar Ocean 3 windlass. Spare Kedge anchor and rode, large anchor locker. Bottled LPG in a dedicated gas locker with shutt-off valve. Gas detector in galley. Emergency tiller, fire blanket in galley, 6-persons liferaft in valise, boarding ladder.

Hall spars carbon fibre four spreader fractional mast, swept back spreaders to avoid running backstays, deck-stepped mast, (alternatively a Hall Spars deck-stepped mast can be fitted), Navtec discontinuous rod rigging,Sparcraft Cape Town aluminium boom fitted with hydraulic outhaul and Navtec boom vang. Hall Spars carbon fibre spinnaker pole (stows against the mast). Navtec hydraulic split backstay. Reckmann EF 90 electric headsail furling unit recessed into deck. North sails: Fully battened mainsail with Fredericksen car system. Soft Norlam cloth, three reefs. 105% roller furling genoa in Gatorback Spectra. Staysail in Offshore SR Spectra Storm staysail, Premium Nordac. Storm try sail, heavy duty Premium Nordac. Asymmetric spinnaker in 1.5oz Nylon Code 2A AP design with Snuffer and ABS snout. Mast fitted with steaming light, tricolour and anchor lights at the mast head. All lights are Aqua Signal series 40, including the port and starboard lights on the bow pulpit and stern light on the aft pulpit. Lewmar winches: 1 x 77/3 electric ST for main sheet 2 x 77/3 electric ST primaries. 2 x 66/2 ST secondaries. 2 x 58 electric ST for halyards 2 x 54/2 ST on coachroof
