" Aurora Magnetica" is an ice strength prototype ship dedicated to Arctic observation. The three main strategic keys are its ability to be fully maneuverable in very shallow remote waters, its autonomy and its low running cost. Built for wintering autonomously, "Aurora Magnetica" has been designed as a simple and efficient year-long observation platform capable of resisting Arctic ice pressure if necessary.
Conceived and run by passionate travelers, Aurora Magnetica's main goal is to be an environmentally friendly educational tool about the most remote places on our planet.

Aluminium motor yacht, Explorer Vessel "Aurora Magnetica", launched October 2004, built in 2004 by Meta Chantier Naval - France, design by Joubert Nivelt Aurora Magnetica ltd, aluminium hull; bottom - 20 mm, hull sides - 15 mm, deck - 10 mm, superstructure - 8 mm, multie chine hull, isolated double glazed windows (8/10mm) in aluminium frames, displaement: approx. 40,4 tonnes, ballast: 3 tonnes, fuel capacity: 8.800 litres – aluminium tank, fresh water capacity: 1.200 litres - tank roto molded, waste tank (s.s.): recycling system though toilet, hydraulic and manual wheel steering.


African mahogany interior, large saloon with two tables and 12 seats.
Four cabins; 3x3 berths + 1x1 berth + 2 extra berths(rear and navigation).
Three independent systems for heating.
Electric water system (3.5 bars), hot water through two boilers - running on engine and 220V.
Marine head with electric toilet (in s.s waste tank), full size shower.
Galley with sink, fridge, deep freeze, cookers; 1x Atlantic Dickinson 5 kW diesel stove with oven + 1x induction - three burner, Siemens washing machine (5kg).


Twin Perkins Sabre M92 diesel engines - 92 hp each, ZF 43 gear box (oversized), Kobalt manual engine control system, indirect cooling system - wet exhaust.
Cruising speed: 8,4 knots @ 1,700 Rpm., maximum speed: 10 knots @ 2.100 Rpm.
Propeller shaft of steel (55mm) - oil lubricated, propellers: four sets of carbon + one set of bronze.
Stabilizers: space reserved - but not installed.
Batteries: engines: 2x 24V/100 amp of '06/'07 + service: 1.260 amp of '06/'07 + generator: 1x 24V.
Whispergen generator - sterling engine.
Shore power, battery charger 100 amp, inverter: 1x 220V - 4,4 kW + 1x 110 V - 1 kW.
Portable inverter 2000W/110V - 8,5A/12V.
Siemens solar panels: 24V - 4x 175 Watt.
Futurenergy wind generator: 1 kW at 24V @ 4 beau fort (1 kW at low speed - permanent magnet - diameter 1,8 m - 5 bladed).

Cradle, spare parts - most of all the system, tools, Furuno + Various clock and barometer, four large extinctors + 4 fire/fume/CO2 detectors.
