"De Vrijheid", a semi-custom built Bestevaer 50, elegant and sturdy at the same time, exudes seaworthiness. Whether crossing oceans or cruising secluded shallow waters, "De Vrijheid" will bring her crew everywhere safely, swiftly and in great comfort. Pure classical lines combined with a modern underbody, hydraulic centerboard and a very effective cruising rig, characterize the Bestevaer 50. "De Vrijheid", designed by Gerard Dijkstra and built by K&M Yachtbuilders to the highest standards. The fine, relative slim hull represents an ideal compromise between speed, centered weight distribution and motion in a seaway. The traditinal long keel, which these yacht used to have, has made way for a modern unterbody. As a result performance and manouvrability have improved due to a lower wetted surface and a draugt of 3.40 m with the centreboard down. With the centreboard up en a draught of 1.80 m, "De Vrijheid" has access to those small harbours and lagoons which similar sixed yachts with a fixed keel have to pass. The rig is simple and efficient: a fully battened mainsail on a furling boom, a furling high aspect ratio jib provide and a genoa for light wind provide ample sail power. Special features are the installation of a watermaker, the hydraulic boarding platform amidschips on the starboard side and two generous armchairs in the saloon. The owner took great care to maintain the elegant, classical style, throughout the yacht. The quality and design of the interior joinery, upholstery and fittings blend perfectly with the flowing lines of the exterior. As a fan of Captain Rob comics of the fifties, the owner named his yacht after De Vrijheid (Freedom).
