  • Extra info How it all started ...... The builders met in the first year of their education at the Wood and Furniture University in Amsterdam. The first two years consisted of making furniture, but soon it became clear that yacht building was the direction they wanted to go to. A combination of old fashioned craftsmanship combined with nowadays influences. The historical skills and techniques combined with modern boatbuilding and materials. Spin-Off its design is based upon the original design plans from Chris-Craft which were obtained from the Mariners Museum in Newport, Virgina. With some adjustments and improvements, the drawings have been worked out in full size and then digitized into a 3D model. The main material is literally born and raised in Amsterdam. An old tree was once felled in Amsterdam's Vondelpark and turned out to be the ideal building material to use as a base; high-quality hardwood, yet lightweight. Next came lots and lots of sanding and fairing. Fairing is the process of creating a pleasant fair curve as you look down the side of the boat. After this meticulous job the hull is reinforced with multiple layers fiberglass and epoxy which created a very strong and rigid hull. The sole of the keel, together with the engine frame are constructed with multi-layer plywood after they first were laminated and impregnated. The outside is finished with a mahogany top layer. It not only makes the boat stronger, it also gives Spin-Off the appearance that was sought. The mahogany comes from 1 tree trunk to avoid differences in color and also to "mirror" both sides. The result is a symmetrical gradient color and both sides have exactly the same wood grain. A small, yet important detail for the builders; the mahogany had to be FSC Certified, and it is ! Applying the mahogany was done by using the vacuum bag method which resulted in a beautiful, sleek and classic finish. There is so much more to tell about this true masterpiece. This is why the builders invite you over to see, hear and admire what makes Spin-Off one of the most admirable new built classic which money can buy.
